Men In Black/Ghostbuster Crossover Game In Development

Nov 7, 2018

A new crossover board game, conceived by Sony and IDW, is set to headline an extensive plan to develop games for both franchises in 2019.

IDW Games and Sony Pictures Consumer Products announced plans to develop a series of tabletop games for both Men in Black and Ghostbusters franchises including, for the first time, a crossover miniatures board game featuring both Men In Black and Ghostbusters. The multi-year agreement comes ahead of the new Men In Black movie set for June 2019 and Ghostbusters celebrating its 35th Anniversary in June 2019.

Currently under development, Men In Black/Ghostbusters: Ecto-terrestrial Invasion will be a miniatures loaded board game featuring the world’s foremost protectors teaming up to take down a threat unlike any they have faced before. Making up the Ghostbusters team will be Peter Venkman, Egon Spangler, Ray Stanz, and Winston Zeddmore, and the MIB team will consist of Agent J, Agent K, Agent L and Zed. While these two teams have faced unearthly threats before, the strength of the Ecto-terrestrials is nearly overwhelming, but that doesn’t mean there can’t be a little friendly competition.

Z-Man Games Announces Miaui

Nov 5, 2018

The ocean waves crash into the shore on a bright summer day. As the villagers start their morning, a cry goes out. The tide has changed and filled the lagoon to bursting with fish of all shapes and sizes! The Miauians quickly hurry to grab their preferred fishing equipment: everything from fishing rods and nets to a snorkel and spear. Racing down to the water, cats of all ages dive in to chase after the best fish. The annual fishing festival has begun!

Travel to the tropical island filled with cats in Miaui! Cute illustrations and light, fun gameplay make this card game a perfect addition for family game night. Pre-order your copy of Miaui today from Z-Man Games or your local retailer.

On the island of Miaui (MEOW-ee), the villagers count down the days until the tide changes, bringing in a wealth of fish to the nearby lagoon. Once the first surge of fish is spotted, the whole village comes together for the fishing festival. The most skilled Miauian divers try to bring back the most valuable fish from the lagoon for the evening feast. All kinds of fish are served at the feast but beware the gooey jellyfish and the thieving seagulls.

Miauians of all shapes, sizes, and age compete for glory at the fishing festival. Players will select their diver from a quirky cast of characters illustrated by Paul Mafayon. Will the kitten win their very first fishing competition or will the grandpa cat take the victory? May the best diver win!

Spiral Arm Studios Releases Pa’ku Artillery

Nov 4, 2018

This month sees the release of a new support unit for the Broken: Pa’ku Artillery, available now from the Maelstrom’s Edge webstore!

Behind the implacable visage of the Pa’ku resides a powerful, if often misunderstood intellect. Extremely logical creatures, when the Pa’ku are convinced a certain course of action will do more good than wrong, they will take lives without scruples if that is what it takes. Pa’ku artillery has been known to mercilessly bombard hospitals or civilian refugee groups when they have concluded that this was the most logical course of action. They do not make any decision lightly nor do they act carelessly. In fact, the Pa’ku sometimes drive their commanders crazy as they sit pondering the pros and cons of a proposed course of action and all the alternatives, and where the situation is particularly complex have been known to gather for private war councils with their own kind before they will consider responding to a call to arms. Despite their reputation for ruthlessness, when Pa’ku take lives it is because they believe there is no viable alternative. This does not however mean they are saints – all of a Pa’ku’s deliberations are still ultimately guided by self-interest and a desire to survive the chaos of the Edge. Despite their peculiarities, Pa’ku are especially desirable to the Broken. Their solid physiques make them extremely suited to carrying heavy loads, including the biggest artillery the Broken manage to cobble together. At close range, the Pa’ku can extend their very long tongue with enough force to cave in a man’s skull. Pa’ku only speak to other species when necessary, and their language is difficult for most races to translate or speak. Combined with their large size, this generally results in them being overlooked by evacuation efforts, and so as with the even larger Gnolti, joining the Broken is often the only reasonable chance for a Pa’ku to escape the edge and find a new home. Pa’ku are often found in the support lines of Broken forces with giant cannon and other esoteric weapons strapped to their broad shoulders. Linked with electronic targeting systems, these weapons can be slaved together to unleash devastating barrages of firepower onto enemy lines. Their favoured weapon is a multi-barrelled EMP mortar, which carpets the battlefield with explosive energy packets that can fry electronic systems and incinerate softer targets.

You can find the rules for the Pa’ku Artillery unit in the Force Builder section of the Maelstrom’s Edge website.

CMON Acquires Licence for Night of the Living Dead

Oct 30, 2018

CMON Ltd., maker of worldwide best-selling tabletop games including their flagship title Zombicide, has acquired the license from Living Dead Media to create branded board games and associated play accessories (including miniature PVC figures, board, dice and tokens/coins, cards) based on Romero’s original iconic movie.

These new games are officially approved by Image Ten, the original production company and custodians of George A. Romero’s iconic film, making them the definitive tabletop products based on the horror classic.

Geoff Skinner, CMON’s VP of Media Development, said of the partnership, “Night of the Living Dead is the quintessential zombie movie. It’s an honor to work with such a property, and we are excited to be able to partner with Living Dead Media and Image Ten on creating a game worthy of the movie’s legacy.”

For this release, CMON Ltd. is once again working with Evolution USA LLC, the licensing and brand management agent of Living Dead Media. Their first collaboration was a tabletop game based on the popular Gaumont-produced Netflix series, Narcos. That game is slated to hit store shelves on November 23rd.

Travis Rutherford, Partner/Chief Revenue Officer at Evolution, said, “We’re thrilled for Night of the Living Dead to be hitting gaming tables all over the world next year and are excited to see what the team at CMON has cooked up. Just like their work on Narcos, we know this will be a fitting addition to a legendary franchise.”

“Living Dead Media and Image Ten are proud to partner with CMON to bring legions of fans a new way to experience Night of the Living Dead. And, Living Dead Media will be honoring George A. Romero by donating a portion of its profits to the newly formed George A. Romero Foundation known as GARF,” said Steve Wolsh, CEO of Living Dead Media.

The announcement to create games based on Night of the Living Dead coincides with CMON Ltd.’s opening of their new L.A. office. From there, CMON looks to further work with licensors to create tabletop products. Earlier this year, CMON successfully launched the A Song of Ice and Fire: Tabletop Miniatures Game based on the NYT Bestselling book series by George R. R. Martin as well as Bloodborne: The Card Game based on Sony’s best-selling PS4-exclusive video game, Bloodborne.  In Q2 of 2019, they will be releasing a family tabletop game based on Hanna-Barbera’s classic Wacky Races cartoon series. The L.A. Office is being led by Geoff Skinner.

Of his mission in L.A., Geoff Skinner said, “CMON is the premiere tabletop gaming company in the world, and I couldn’t be more proud to help establish our footprint in Hollywood. By opening an office in L.A., we’re looking forward to strengthening our licensor relationships in the film, TV, and electronic gaming communities, as well as to forging partnerships that will expand the narrative of our own IPs into television, features and animation.”
