RPG Encounter Mat Kickstarter from Battlemats

May 27th, 2017

Battlemats are pleased to announce the launch of the RPG Encounter Mat Kickstarter campaign.

We are expanding our existing RPG Encounter Mat range with 20 designs available as physical vinyl mats and digital files, or as a combination of both.

We aim to have the ideal backdrop for any encounter in any roleplay game!

Our mats are all available in 2’x2’, and over half have a 3’x2’ option. Our images are available with or without, a 1” grid overlaid on the image.

Our digital files are suitable for home printing (on multiple A4 sheets then assemble) and/or for virtual table top.

At Battlemats we work in PVC vinyl for several reasons. It is a highly durable material, 500gsm is very heavy duty (so much heavier than a PVC tablecloth for example) and it will not tear. It is heavy enough to lie comfortably flat under its own weight – no curling edges here! –and we recommend our mats are stored rolled in the cardboard tube provided.

You can also draw on our PVC mats using a chalk pen or non-permanent wet marker, and they will wipe clean. This means you can personalise your experience and customise your mat for as many different scenarios as you can think of!

We are pretty excited about this Kickstarter launch, and we are celebrating by designing even more designs as stretch goals!

Revenge of the Blank now Live On Kickstarter

Revenge of the Blank box

May 20th, 2017

Despicable Games LLC announces it’s first despicable game, “Revenge of the Blank

Revenge of the Blank is a simple party game. One person in this game called “The Judge” reads a prompt. Everyone else then writes a response on their own whiteboard. After all the responses have been submitted the Judge picks their favorite. They then give the card to the player who wrote the winning response. The player to the left of the Judge becomes the new Judge and the game continues like this until all the cards dealt out at the start of the game have been awarded. The player with the most points at the end of the game is the winner.

With three questions on each card, you should never have to ask a lame question. Because of the whiteboards you don’t have predefined responses that don’t fit the question like in many other games. In-jokes, friends, enemies or even events that have just happened can become answers. The same answers can be used over and over leading to some very funny running jokes. You can even draw an answer. Which in the end leads to a ton of laughs, many groans, few gasps and possible some interesting discussions.

Some examples of prompts from the game:

______ is the worst thing to hear the paramedics say on the way to the hospital.

And the award for ______, goes to ______.

What is something you can say at a zoo, but not about your partner?

I suffer from (Pick 3 Letters), which stands for ______.

A fortune teller once told me I would live a life full of ______.

I have just rededicated my life to the study of ______.

Little known fact: ______.

If (Name Someone) had a theme song, it would be ______.

Create a shopping list of 2 or more items, that when purchased together, might confuse or alarm the cashier.

Revenge of the Blank is a game for 3-8 players, but can handle more with a second copy or by forming teams. Game length is adjustable, by increasing or decreasing the amount of cards dealt to each player at the start of the game. The average game plays in about 45 minutes. Suggested retail price for the base game is $25 and $10 for each 50 card expansion.

Archmage Origins Launched and Funded on Kickstarter – 17 Days Left to back!

archmage origins

May 14th, 2017

SolarFlare Games has returned to Kickstarter to seek funding for their new game, Archmage Origins.

Archmage Origins is a light, fast and fun game for 2-4 players.  The game is a unique blend of tableau management, bidding, bluffing, area control and memory.

Quick to play, easy to learn and challenging to master; Archmage Origins is a great deal at just $9 (delivered) on Kickstarter.

Archmage Origins is a game where players take turns manipulating the field of monsters and focusing their mystical power to “enlist” monsters to form the strongest force possible.

The goal is to control the strongest force of monsters from the Realm, which is made up of cards indicating the monster that occupies that space and its power level.

Players take turns peeking at the cards to determine where the most powerful monsters are hiding, deviously moving the monsters around, and strategically placing their Mage Cards around the borders of the Realm. Once all the Mage Cards are in place, players compare the power value of the magical energies that intersects at each monster. The player with the higher total mystical power value gains control of that monster (usually). The player who collects the most powerful force of monsters wins.

Five meals have been ordered and each cook vies to create the best. Each cook is dealt seven Ingredient Cards that they will use to both make their recipe worthy, and make their opponents’ recipes the worst. Perhaps add a little Spices to perk up the final dish? The cook with the highest total recipe value from all their prepared dishes wins and becomes the Short Order Hero!

Can you stand the heat of this competitive kitchen? Find out with Short Order Hero!

Carthage Launching on Kickstarter May 17th – Easy to Learn.. Easy to Die!

Carthage - Game Layout

May 5th, 2017

SAS Creative announced that Carthage will be launching a Kickstarter campaign on May 17, 2017. Carthage is a deckbuilding board game, in which players move around a hex-based arena and face off in gladiatorial warfare to earn crowd favor, gain armor, and battle to the death. Luke Seinen, the designer of Carthage states, “The board game community really needs a good Gladiator game. A game that makes you feel the fear, risk, and adrenaline of being in a gladiatorial contest. Carthage answers that call!”

Featuring a beautiful Graphic Novel art style, this game uses blended mechanics of deckbuilding, hand management, and ruthless “take-that” combat. Also included, is a unique modular ruleset which allows players to play game matchmaker, altering the game complexity, playtime, and strategic depth.

Luke Seinen and his wife run SAS Creative, an indie graphic design company in Edmonton, Canada. Through his company, he had the rare opportunity to not only conceive and develop his game, but to also personally handle all of the design and graphics. “I love that from start to finish, I was able to have a directive hand in all elements of the game,” said Luke Seinen.

Enter the Theater of Carthage

Under its fifty imposing arches, each etched with masterful illustrations of man and beast, the Carthaginian theater awakens. Crowds flood inside to witness the grand spectacle of axe against gladius, of life pitted against death: where speed, skill and the favor of the crowds determine one’s fate; where any move can be one’s last. Feeding the hunger of its audience, blade strikes blade and meets flesh. As the sun grows in the Mediterranean sky, gladiators fall, one after another, their bodies echoes of their former strength and glory. Now, it’s your turn!

You step into the arena. The salty sea air mixed with the pungent aroma of sweat and blood burns your nostrils. Having saluted the fickle crowd, you turn to face your opponents. Grim looks of determination meet your gaze. Victory or defeat, only one of you will leave this arena. Victory or defeat, history will remember your name in Carthage.

Carthage.  Easy to Learn… Easy to Die!

Number of players:  2-5
Time Required: 30-60 minutes

Trade & Troll is set in a fantasy kingdom, where each player represents a merchant whose goal is to arrange an efficient production line from the collection of basic resources to their manufacturing and consequent trading in market stands. During the game, players’ main goal is to enlarge their trading company, gathering different Resources to sell in their Stalls and creating Markets combining different Stalls. To connect one building to another, players must cobble new roads, but beware! Your opponents may use your roads as well for their trades!
