Jellybean Games has launched Ninjitsu!, a ninja-themed card game for all ages.
Ninjitsu! is the follow-up to the hit pirate game Scuttle!, which raised over $87,000 on Kickstarter in March 2016, almost 3000% of its funding goal.
Ninjitsu! is fully compatible with Scuttle!, and can also be played as a standalone game.
“I’m really excited to collaborate with Kelly Jo again,” said designer Peter C. Hayward. “Her art is so evocative. Just as Scuttle! really made you feel like you were swinging between decks and stealing treasure, the art in Ninjitsu! really captures the sneakiness and bluffing of the game. It’s perfect for families!”
As with all Jellybean Games, the rules are straightforward and easy to learn. Each turn, players either draw two cards or play a card from their hand. Cards can be played either for their ability, or as a treasure. The first player or team to have twenty-one points of treasure in front of them is the winner.
Ninjitsu! introduces hidden treasures: cards which are played face down, concealing their value. Hidden treasures can be swiped at any time by an opponent, but may contain traps. Players must decide whether taking the treasure is worth the risk of it blowing up in their face.
Three expansions will be released alongside the game: Traps! adds fifteen unique cards and an additional suit to the deck, allowing it to double as a set of playing cards. Two smaller expansions compatible with both Scuttle! and Ninjitsu! have also been announced: Heavy Weather and The Elements.
Ninjitsu! is for 2 to 5 players aged 8+, and will launch on Kickstarter on the 25th of July, 2017.
