Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective Getting a Facelift and Re-Release

Ten fully revised cases for the Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective line from Space Cowboys will soon be available with the newest standalone box, The Thames Murders and Other Cases.

Like the previously released Jack the Ripper & West End Adventures, The Thames Murders and Other Cases offers ten thrilling cases, each one drawing you into the mystery surrounding a deadly crime in the world of Sherlock Holmes. Whether you’re playing alone or with up to eight players, you’ll need everyone’s wits to solve the case.

The Thames Murders & Other Cases will be popped in a new drawer box to match the other Sherlock releases from Asmodee: revamped Consulting Detective sequel Jack the Ripper & West End Adventures and the more conventional board game Watson & Holmes.

It’s worth mentioning that the ten cases in Thames Murders aren’t new mysteries – they’re the original stories found in Ystari’s edition of the 1982 Spiel des Jahres winner, but retranslated and polished to buff out some of the errors and language issues that had affected the game. Apparently this even means that some of the cases’ ‘contents and solutions’ have changed, but we obviously don’t know much more than that thanks to the risk of spoilers.

Otherwise, the box includes freshened-up versions of the iconic London map, case books and The Times newspapers.

The exhaustively-titled Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective – The Thames Murders & Other Cases will be out in the third quarter of 2017.

Escape from Colditz, a title originally published by Gibsons (UK) and Parker Brothers (US) in the 1970s, is back in a new edition from Osprey Games.

The new version ($65 SRP) has new art, revised rules, wood pawns, cards, a large board, and a 32 page history book. The box also includes the original rules for those nostalgic for the game played in their childhood.

Escape from Colditz has most players in the roles of Allied soldiers attempting escape from the infamous World War II Nazi prison and one other as the guards trying to keep them locked up. One of the game’s designers was actually one of the few prisoners who managed to escape.
