Gale Force Nine(GF9) has reached a multi-year licensing agreement with Legendary Entertainment and Herbert Properties, LLC to bring the expansive Dune sci-fi franchise to tabletop gaming.
As master licensee, GF9 will produce original tabletop games drawing from the extensive DUNE franchise – including printed work by Frank Herbert, Brian Herbert, and Kevin J. Anderson, as well as direct tie-ins with Legendary’s upcoming film directed by Denis Villeneuve.
“This is only the beginning of our big plans in tabletop for this captivating franchise,” said John-Paul Brisigotti, CEO of GF9. “Dune is a rich and wonderful universe, and we expect to produce an equally expansive and inspired line of games for years to come.”
“Gale Force Nine has consistently demonstrated a skill and passion for building successful tabletop game series alongside category leading partners and we are thrilled to announce this exciting addition to the Dune licensing program,” said Jamie Kampel, Vice President of Licensing & Partnerships for Legendary. “Legendary looks forward to a fun and meaningful contribution to this revered legacy property.”
The full range of products, including board and miniatures games, are scheduled to release just prior to the upcoming Dune theatrical release in 2020. GF9 plans to align with other game companies in numerous categories and formats for future releases as well.
“With this master license, we are excited to collaborate with our peers and leverage their unique expertise to realize a complete spectrum of game types and authentic experiences,” said Brisigotti. Slated for late 2019, their first collaboration is a tabletop role-playing game from Modiphius, publisher of popular licensed games including Star Trek Adventures, Fallout: Wasteland Warfare, Conan, Mutant Chronicles, Achtung! Cthulhu, and Tales from the Loop.
The licensing deal was brokered by Joe LeFavi of Genuine Entertainment, who will manage the Dune license for GF9 and assist in business development with Brisigotti.

Steve Jackson Games and Games Workshop announce the biggest, back-stabbiest, most loot-filled heavy-weapons bonanza of the year: Munchkin Warhammer 40,000, coming in 2019 to a game store near you!
Since the original Munchkin card game hit the market in 2001, the Munchkin brand has sold over 9 million games and accessories worldwide. Warhammer 40,000, now in its eighth edition, is one of the longest-lasting classic games of miniatures combat. Now these two popular games are merging into a storm of carnage and weirdness guaranteed to satisfy armies of gamers.
As with all Munchkin games, Munchkin Warhammer 40,000 will combine easily with the rest of the extensive Munchkin line, including Munchkin Zombies, Star Munchkin, and Munchkin itself.
Munchkin Warhammer 40,000 is illustrated by principal Munchkin artist (and extreme Warhammer fanboy) John Kovalic, and designed by Munchkin Line Editor Andrew Hackard, in consultation with Games Workshop.
“I have never seen a game store without a Warhammer 40,000 section,” said Hackard. “It’s a pleasure to get to play around in a setting that has such a rich history and so many dedicated fans around the world!”
Munchkin Warhammer 40,000 will launch in 2019 in premiere Deluxe format ($29.95), followed by two 112-card expansions ($19.95) later the same year. That’s almost 400 cards of explosive Munchkin Warhammer fun!

Of course, such a huge miniature serves as a stunning reminder of Imperial might on the battlefield—and it’s also a fully functional warship that you can add to your Imperial fleets. With four unique ship sheets, an assortment of tokens, and twenty-four upgrade cards, including iconic commanders like Admiral Piett and Emperor Palpatine, any rival fleet will tremble to face the might of your onslaught.
Look for the Super Star Destroyer Expansion Pack (SWM20) early in the first quarter of 2019, and pre-order your copy at your local retailer or online through Fantasy Flight Games

CMON announced at GenCon the upcoming Starcadia Quest, taking the PvPvE that you love in Arcadia Questand into space. Not just a reskin, but an advancement in play, streamlining things and just creating a better overall gaming experience.
Space is vast, and it was only a matter of time before the residents of Arcadia developed the technology to explore beyond their own world. Contact has been made with alien planets. Many of them, in fact. Some have proven themselves to be allies, and some… not so much, but enough friends have been made to form a loose partnership. The Starcadian Alliance is not a governing body, but rather an agreement for mutual defense for any threats that may crop up in the universe. It’s a good thing the alliance is in place too, because a threat of epic proportions is on its way!
In Starcadia Quest, 2 to 4 players control Crews of two Heroes in a campaign to defeat the foes of the Starcadian Alliance. While they share the same goals, the Crews are definitely not working together. They compete with each other as much as the game itself. Over the course of a branching campaign, players will decide what direction the story will take. Each choice will allow them to pursue certain opportunities, while leaving others behind. These decisions can have serious consequences later in the campaign.

Brigade Models give us that sinking feeling with the release of some stellar sci-fi sunken/underground terrain models in 6mm!
The desert is a harsh environment, with the combination of sun, sand and wind making life difficult for anyone trying to eke out an existence among the dunes. Some colonists have tried to protect themselves from the climate by digging themselves into the terrain and building their houses, workshops underground. In some cases they’ve built above ground and then buried the structures under a layer of plascrete and sand, leaving just the doors and windows exposed, with a few vents and exhausts.
For want of a better name, we’ve called these ones Sunken Structures. They’re based around a courtyard sunk into the ground around 25 feet or so, with doors and tunnels leading off from the open central area. Windows and vents pierce the side walls and exhaust towers protrude above the surface. Access from ground level can be by simple stairs cut into the rock or elevators running up the side of the pits. Some are accessed through small entrance buildings on the surface above. One of the structures is an octagonal pit with a large workshop door off to one side, intended as a below-ground landing bay.
The models are one-piece resin castings. They’re all cast as simple square or rectangular pieces, and all are 25mm deep – the idea is for them to be modeled into a terrain baseboard or hill/mesa using 25mm thick insulation foam.

Within the Emperor Palpatine Commander Expansion you’ll find everything you need to add Emperor Palpatine to your army as a commander—leading the Imperial forces on his own or alongside another Imperial commander such as his apprentice, Darth Vader. A single unpainted, easily assembled miniature depicts a cloaked Emperor Palpatine plotting his next move, while three upgrade cards allow you to tap into his mastery of the dark side of the Force. Finally, three new command cards give you more options for determining your battle plans, letting you make use of the Emperor’s abilities as a master strategist.
The Imperial Royal Guards Unit Expansion contains everything you need to add a unit of Emperor Palpatine’s personal bodyguards to your army. The squad of four unpainted, easily assembled miniatures stands ready to protect the Emperor or do his bidding on any planet across the galaxy. The Royal Guard is also accompanied by five distinct upgrade cards that invite you to outfit them with even more tools for protecting the Emperor.
Both expansions are expected to release in Q4, 2018.
