Wings of Glory – Tripods & Triplanes On Kickstarter Now!

tripods and triplanes

Dec 1, 2017

In Wings of Glory – Tripods & Triplanes from Ares Games (On Kickstarter now!), the knights of the air of WW1 battle against colossal fighting machines sent by the Martians to invade Earth. Take control of an awesome Martian Tripod, set upon bringing death and destruction on our planet… or fly on the most advanced flying machines created by Mankind during World War One, and try to use them to win the War of the Worlds.

March 18th, 1918: the nearest approach of planet Mars to Earth. The First World War suddenly changes into a War of the Worlds, when what appears as a meteor shower falls over a wood in Alsace. A few hours later, just after dawn, an army of giant alien fighting machines appear out of the trees and starts burning villages and houses with their lethal heat-rays, leaving pestilential trails of black smoke behind them.

A truce is hurriedly signed between the warring nations and, against the advancing Martian tripods, the best war machines of Earth are dispatched, manned by the most gallant and skilled warriors of our planet!

Tripods and Triplanes is a new, stand-alone game, but it is fully compatible with the WW1 Wings of Glory collection. With Tripods and Triplanes your aerial battles will never be the same!

Wings of Glory WW1 Bombers take flight on Kickstarter

Ares

March 12th, 2015

Ares Games’ Wings of Glory is probably the most popular World War One aerial combat tabletop game in the world, with a great collection of pre-painted, ready-to-play model airplanes.

Thanks to its elegant and innovative game system, it is possible to start playing minutes after opening the rules. Each airplane has a unique, historically accurate, maneuver deck, yet it is easy to play.

Since the birth of our company in 2011, we have developed many airplanes in this range. To this point – in the WW1 range alone – we produced 26 different airplane models, with almost 100 variants.

We already produced some big models as part of this WW1 range – the Gotha G.V and Caproni Ca.3. But, we wanted to stretch the envelope further: for more than a year we have been working to expand this collection with the ultimate WW1 airplanes. We have developed the models and gameplay for two fearsome “Giants of the Sky” – two of the largest airplanes to fly during WW1. This was a real engineering challenge, and we’re very proud of the quality we achieved.

What’s coming next for Ares Games’ Wings of Glory game lines?

Good news for WW1 and WW2 Wings of Glory players is the return of the Wings of Glory Game Mats – these best-selling accessories are out of stock, but will be available again within a few weeks.

One of the new Caproni Ca.3 bombers (La Guardia/Zapelloni), coming in May.

New WW1 Airplane Packs were released a few weeks ago – SPAD S.VII, Albatros D.II, Bristol F.2B and Halberstadt CL.II – and the WW1 Special Packs are back next month, with a new release of Gotha G.Vs and Caproni Ca.3s. Both lines are developing at a steady pace, and new releases will be available this Summer.

In June, new WW1 fighters will be in stores, including the eagerly awaited Fokker D.VII and Sopwith Snipe, along with two “scouts,” the Roland C.II and AirCo DH.4. These WW1 Airplane Packs will feature the four fighters in three different versions each: the Fokker D.VII of Goering, Sachsenberg and Stark; the Sopwith Snipe of Barker, Kazakov and Sapozhnikov; the Roland C.II of Von Richthofen, Luftstreitkrafte and FFA 292b; and the AirCo DH.4, of 50th Squadron AEF, Cotton/Betts and Bartlett/Naylor.

In July we will (finally!) see the release of the long-awaited WW2 4-engine bombers: the B-17 and Avro Lancaster. These beauties will be released as WW2 Wings of Glory Special Packs featuring the B-17F “Memphis Belle,” the B-17G “A Bit of Lace,” the Avro Lancaster B.III “Grog’s the Shot,” and Mk.III Dambuster. These packs will be, in fact, mini-expansions to the game, presenting, in addition to the miniatures, paper play mats with specific targets (industrial sites, dams), and special rules.
