Ares announces an agreement with Griggling Games to publish worldwide the second edition of Quartermaster General WW2, a fast-paced strategy game created by Ian Brody and first released in 2015, with nearly 10,000 copies sold in English, French, and Russian. The new edition is planned to release in the second half of 2019.
In Quartermaster General WW2, players take command of the major powers of the Second World War, and supply is crucial to keep their armies and navies fighting. They are challenged to destroy enemies’ supply lines to lead them to surrender. The game is suited for 2 to 6 players, playing one or more countries on either the Axis or Allied team. Each major power has a unique set of strikingly illustrated cards with which to muster their forces, represented by wooden army and navy pieces. The game is simple to learn and quick to setup – but difficult to master, and each game plays differently, ensuring replayability.
First Edition Quartermaster General was nominated for several awards: the 2015 International Gamers Award for General Strategy: Multi-player Game, as well as the 2014 Golden Geek 2014 for Wargame of the Year. In addition, the leading French language board game website awarded Quartermaster General WW2 the Tric Trac 2016 d’or (Gold Medal) for Wargame of the Year. Three expansions were released for the game – “Air Marshal”, “Alternate Histories”, and “Prelude”, and three games using its engine: “Victory or Dead”, “Quartermaster General 1914”, and “Cold War”.
The second edition of Quartermaster General WW2, by Ares Games, represents a careful revision of the original game, improving its ease of play, clarity, play balance, and more. Refreshed packaging artwork heralds the improvements to make this great game even better.

Ares Games announces an agreement with game designers Martyn Oliver and Colin Thornton to publish a renewed, updated edition of “City of Chaos”, a break through board game originally published in 1996 and one of the first board games to use extensive storytelling in their gameplay. The new edition is planned to release in the second half of 2019.
In “City of Chaos – The Fantasy Board Game”, players explore the twisting, smog-filled streets of Byronitar, the “city of Chaos”. The city and its inhabitants are in the grip of strange, entropic forces threatening to rip the city apart. Players must uncover the clues which will lead them to the sources of Chaos, to restore order to the city.
Byronitar is a richly detailed setting which offers an immersive experience to players. The game uses a random plot and world generator which ensures that no two games are ever alike and combines features such as tile-laying to create the game board, random events, combat, and role playing. Players can improve their characters by enrolling in many strange guilds, like The Somatologists (pacifists and healers) or The Pneumologist (use your breath as a physical force). The eccentric atmosphere of Byronitar is generated from ‘The Tome of Chaos’ with hundreds of unique paragraphs and interactions. The players must explore the city, uncover its locations and interact with its unusual denizens to discover one of the multiple sources of the chaos plaguing the streets. Byronitar is unlike any other place you have experienced.
“City of Chaos is an imaginative game, with a unique setting and an innovative use of storytelling. It was groundbreaking when It was first published, and more than 20 years later, it still has a cult following. We are very excited to bring it back to the market with a new edition, improved and updated, as we feel it can still be a strong addition to today’s gaming scene”, said Roberto Di Meglio, Director of R&D of Ares Games.
“We are so excited with the agreement with the team at Ares Games, an exceptional, quality publisher. Most of all we’d like to thank the dedicated players on BoardgameGeek that kept the game alive. Now we’re off for a wild dance through the streets with the Lord of Demons, join us soon!”, declared the game’s authors, Martyn Oliver and Colin Thornton.

Ares will be the master distributor of PHALANX’s board games in English (worldwide, excluding Europe). Distribution will start in November 2017, when Hannibal & Hamilcar – Rome vs. Carthage will be released.
Italian company Ares Games and UK based PHALANX announce a new partnership to distribute the English edition of PHALANX games in the United States and non-European countries. Starting from November 2017, Ares will start to bring to its customers the full PHALANX catalog, including Germania Magna: Border in Flames, Hunger: The Show, and Hannibal & Hamilcar – Rome vs. Carthage – the 20th anniversary edition of one of the best two-player games ever published.
Hannibal & Hamilcar – Rome vs. Carthage is renowned for its tense, well-balanced mechanics, and it tells a great story. Hannibal crossing the Alps on his herd of elephants is one of the most memorable events in history. The game uses the popular card-driven system to detail the struggle between Carthage’s Hannibal and the Roman Republic in approximately 200 BC. The 20th Anniversary Edition was funded with a successful Kickstarter campaign in May 2017 – 3,514 backers pledged £263,443 to help bring this project to life, and is due to release in November 2017.
The other two games from PHALANX’s portfolio to be distributed initially by Ares are Germania Magna: Border in Flames, a game of shifting alliances where each player assumes the role of a Germanic warlord leading his warriors into Roman provinces, which lie across the Rhine and Danube rivers, and Hunger: The Show, a fast-paced family game of survival on a desert island with other live TV show participants.
“We are very excited about this new partnership,” said Roberto Di Meglio, Director of R&D of Ares Games. “Beautiful historical-themed games, such as Hannibal & Hamilcar or Germania Magna, are a great fit to our catalog, and PHALANX’s lighter games such as Hunger: The Show will make our line-up of products even stronger. We really look forward to work with PHALANX and make sure all our customers get a chance to know about their excellent games.”
“We have been looking for a reliable distribution partner for our games for quite a time and signing a contract with Ares Games is an award for the hard work of our teams,” added Jaro Andruszkiewicz, Director of PHALANX. “We have received a great reception by Ares and are very excited to work with them. Our game portfolio will be a great fit for Ares Games distribution product range, PHALANX and Ares products should support each other on the market.”
