The Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-earth, A New Board Game of Adventure and Heroism from Fantasy Flight Games
Jan 11, 2019
Fantasy Flight Games is proud to announce The Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-earth, a fully cooperative, app-supported board game for one to five players, inviting you to become the greatest heroes of Middle-earth!
The Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-earth lets you embark on your own adventures in J.R.R. Tolkien’s iconic world, embodying heroes of the Free Peoples and fighting back against the oppressive might of Sauron. You’ll battle villainous foes, make courageous choices, and strike a blow against the evil that threatens the land—all as part of a thrilling campaign that leads you across the storied hills and dales of Middle-earth.
Each individual game of Journeys in Middle-earth is a single adventure in a larger campaign. You’ll explore the vast and dynamic landscapes of Middle-earth, using your skills to survive the challenges you encounter on these perilous quests. As you and your fellow heroes explore the wilderness and battle the dark forces arrayed against you, the game’s free companion app guides you to reveal the looming forests, quiet clearings, and ancient halls of Middle-earth, while also controlling the enemies you encounter. Whether you’re venturing into the wild on your own or with close companions by your side, you can write your own legend in the history of Middle-earth.

No Honor Among Thieves from Carpe Omnis Games is a competitive/cooperative card game for three to six players, in which each player assembles a crew of thieves and sets out to see who can steal the most lucre from the rich and powerful of a fantasy city. Working alone is difficult, but working together leaves you open to treachery by your so-called allies–or gives you the chance to betray them, and take it all for yourself. An unspoken code of honor exists among the thieves of this city, but that won’t last past the first betrayal, and once that uneasy trust is gone the game gets more dangerous as players gain access to additional underhanded abilities.
The rich and powerful of the kingdom keep their wealth safe behind barred doors and armed guards, but you know a guy who’s good with locks and another who’s good with his fists. Or you know someone who can climb like a monkey, and someone else who could charm the fangs off a snake. How you do it is up to you. The important thing is that there’s gold there for the taking, and you’re going to take it all.
Assemble your crew. Make your plans. And make sure to keep a careful eye on everyone else, because everyone knows there’s no such thing as honor among thieves.

Restoration Games announced the release of the cooperative play mode for Stop Thief! In this new mode, two to four players work together to take down the “Atlantic 7” before they make off with a pile of loot. Cooperative mode offers an exciting new play style that many players enjoy even more than the traditional competitive mode. The new mode uses components in the original game and requires no new components. Dan King, the “Game Boy Geek”, recently said the cooperative mode was “amazing” and “worth buying just for this mode”.
A single-page pdf of the cooperative rules is available for download on the game’s web page: https://restorationgames.com/stopthief/
Stop Thief! raised more than $100,000 in its Kickstarter campaign last year. Stretch goals during the campaign promised alternate play modes, including cooperative. “We’re excited to deliver on this promise to our backers and to provide this fun way to play to everyone who owns the game,” said Justin D. Jacobson, president of Restoration Games. He reminds players that the app already features different difficulty levels and a funky retro mode and also says that solo and 1-vs-all play modes will be released as soon as the app development is finished.
Stop Thief was originally designed by Dr. Robert Doyle and published by Parker Brothers in 1979. Restoration Games brought back the new version at Gen Con last year, featuring a free companion app, asymmetrical movement decks, variable suspect effects, and vibrant new art.

Fantasy Flight Games is pleased to announce a new cooperative narrative game in Legacy of Dragonholt!
The first game to use the Oracle system, Legacy of Dragonholt contains six quests set in the Runebound universe that take as many as six daring heroes to the outskirts of Terrinoth. Adventurers build their own stories by making choices that will lead into dark caves and dangerous forests, pit them against cunning bandits and vicious monsters, earn them wealth and fame, and hopefully bring them to foil the plot of an evil overlord.
This narrative adventure game allows players to become bold heroes of the fantasy realm of Terrinoth by designing characters to fit their unique personalities. To build their rich story experience, players select a race and class, create a personal description, and choose their skills. These are recorded on character sheets that heroes hold for easy reference throughout their adventures.
Players may choose to become one of six different humanoid races that inhabit this land. Adventurers can be resilient humans, powerful orcs, vigorous dwarves, graceful elves, crafty gnomes, or agile catfolk. Each race comes with their own unique set of abilities based on the rich history of their people. All of this and more can be found in the Legacy of Dragonholt comprehensive Character Creation booklet that details the physical appearances, cultures, and histories of each race.
But a hero’s appearance is only a fraction of who they are. Their training, talents, and tactics (as detailed in a hero’s class) make up the meat of their game play and are primarily used in their explorations. A player may choose to become either an apothecary, bard, brawler, knight, sage, thief, or wildlander. A key strategy for a successful team is to choose classes that complement each other so that their collective abilities are balanced and refined. A troupe of singing bards may not last long against a goblin horde, while a team of knights may die in battle without an apothecary to heal them. By banding together a diverse group of adventurers, your team is sure to find success in the trials ahead.
Legacy of Dragonholt presents players with a daunting mystery and series of decisions that affect game play. Most of all, it is not about winning or losing, but immersing oneself in a narrative of your own creation, and presenting players with a living and ever-changing universe.
