The Land of Shadow Nightmare Decks are now available for The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game from Fantasy Flight Games!
Like other Nightmare Decks for The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game, the three different Nightmare Decks consolidated in this expansion allow you to revisit some of your favorite scenarios as they are given new life in the shadows of the game’s challenging Nightmare Mode. With deadlier enemies, darker locations, and more terrifying surprises, each of these Nightmare Decks introduces new, alternate encounter cards and instructions for using them to reshape the encounter deck from one of the scenarios from The Land of Shadow.
The result? A nightmarish journey through The Land of Shadow that should haunt you with its evils, no matter whether you play its scenarios as standalone adventures or brave the journey to Mount Doom as part of an entire Saga campaign played in Nightmare Mode.
You may have already grappled with Gollum, taming the twisted creature in order to bring out its Sméagol side. You may have already traversed the Dead Marshes, wary of the bog that shifted beneath your feet and the dead faces watching you from beneath the brackish water. You may have taken part in an ambush of the Haradrim. And you may have already found your way through the network of tunnels ruled by Shelob, one of the oldest and most terrifying evils of Middle-earth…
But you haven’t yet done these things in Nightmare Mode. You haven’t yet seen all the evils that Sauron holds at his disposal.

Fantasy Flight Games has released three new Nightmare Decks for The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game, and they recast your early adventures through the Angmar Awakened cycle into the darker and deadlier shadows of Nightmare Mode!
- The Wastes of Eriador Nightmare Deck
- Escape from Mount Gram Nightmare Deck
- Across the Ettenmoors Nightmare Deck
Featuring new setup and encounter cards, these Nightmare Decks offer veteran players and hardcare Dúnedain enthusiasts new and refreshed challenges amid the untamed wilderness that lies just outside of Bree-land and the Shire. No longer will the paths you once marked guarantee you safe travel. Instead, you’ll find new, more ferocious enemies; formidable and shadowed locations; and treacheries that run the gamut from the foulest of weather to the most insidious tricks known to Goblin jailors.
Additionally, since each Nightmare Deck also offers a new twist upon its scenario’s main themes, you’ll find new side quests to reinforce the Angmar Awakened cycle’s focus on self-directed exploration.

For many generations the Rangers of the North have patrolled the northern reaches of Middle-earth, shielding the lands of Men from the evils that surround them. Their efforts are ceaseless. They receive no thanks. And they even suffer the scorn of the simpler folk who fail to understand them. Yet they would have it no other way. Their secret hunts grant the simpler folk freedom from care and fear, and there are servants of the Enemy in many places—not just in Mordor.
When The Lost Realm was released, it provided fans of The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game their first real chance to join these Rangers and participate in their defense of the North. You could chase Orcs, battle undead, and uncover the first signs that terrible evils were once again stirring in the forsaken lands of Angmar.
Now, though, the hints of evil are stronger than ever. There are more Orcs. There are more undead. The darkness in Angmar is ready to swallow the North.

Collected within a single, sixty-card set, The Black Riders Nightmare Decks introduce new setup and encounter cards to modify each of the three different scenarios from The Black Riders Saga Expansion, allowing you to revisit them within the darker and deadlier trappings of the game’s Nightmare Mode. More than ever, in Nightmare Mode, you’ll feel the weight of Middle-earth upon your back as you desperately seek some means of helping Frodo Baggins avoid the Nazgûl that hunt him, escape the Shire, and carry the One Ring to Rivendell.
Naturally, the Nazgûl feature prominently in The Black Riders Nightmare Decks, just as they do in each of the three scenarios they modify. At times, you’ll need to hide from them; at other times, you’ll need to fight them. In both circumstances, though, The Black Riders Nightmare Decks add to your game’s tension and excitement. You’ll find more Nazgûl enemies, along with other cards that force you into difficult decisions as they close in upon you. Then, if you’re playing through the scenarios in Campaign Mode, these decisions can haunt you throughout the whole duration of your journey to Mount Doom, as The Black Riders Nightmare Decks also kicks off your Nightmare Mode The Lord of the Rings campaign, and the chances are greater than ever that your Ring-bearer will truly feel the weight and burden of the One Ring!
